Muito obrigado to the hundreds of people who helped make Festa 2018 a memorable one! The annual event — celebrating Portuguese food, music and culture — was held at the Hawaii Plantation Village.
There was never a dull moment with emcee Champ Kaneshiro as he kept the crowd entertained between acts.
Entertainment highlights include, Frank DeLima, the Camões players, and the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii led by Mr. Kimo Hussey.
Other activites included an interactive find your crest display, a selfie spot with dancers, a plant sale, and a keiki corner.
There was also a lot of Portuguese food booths.
Ono grinds included vinha d'alhos, portuguese bean soup and malassadas.
While the malassada line was for days, those tasty little balls of dough and sugar were totally worth it. Delicioso!
Although it was unseasonably hot at the plantation, shaved ice helped folks keep cool.
A memorable moment for us was when former Hawaii Representative Mike Gabbard presented the Portuguese Council's President Dan Nelson with a proclamation plaque for The Hawaii Council on Portuguese Heritage.
Mr. Nelson has worked tirelessly for the council and the Portguese Geneological society for many years.
It was great to see him receive some recognition.
And no Festa would be complete without a Portuguese celebrity sighting. Nothing will ever change our love for Glenn Medeiros.
We would also like to thank the club volunteers who helped make this event special, and to the public for allowing us to share our beautiful, rich heritage with you.
